Private Home
Contract £600,000
Completed January 2012

A narrow site, with a dark basement, previously an art gallery, the brief was simple, a family home for a young couple and their baby.

The main challenges centered around circulation and creating a light basement. A feature staircase punches into the lower floor allowing light into the kitchen and dining room. The staircases are reorganised to create a simple set of internal levels with light washing down into the building from a glass roof above. At roof level, a terrace nestled into the mansard space, a private sun trap.

The building was almost entirely rebuilt, with only the front elevation retained for planning. The architecture is a classic blend of clean modern finishes and traditional Victorian spaces stacked around a beautiful, modern walnut staircase.
